Hillclimbers edge Chieftain netters in CBCmatch

Bellefontaine’s boys tennis team came close to picking up its first win of the season, but could not pull it off as host Urbana won 3-2 in a Central Buckeye Conference match Friday.

The Chiefs are now 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the CBC.

“I thought we played a little better,” said BHS head coach Jim Stein. “Tyler Frantz and Logan Raney did a nice job in their singles matches for us.”

At second singles, Frantz outlasted Jacob Circle 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in a two-hour match.

“That was a good effort from Tyler,” said Stein. “He is getting back to the form he showed during the first week of the season.”

Raney rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Austyn Fair at third singles.

In the first singles match, Urbana’s Wayne Wildman prevailed 6-0, 6-2 over Rohan Prasad.

Urbana swept the doubles matches in straight sets.

The Hillclimbers’ Jason Holmes and Steven Theil took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jacob Campbell and Dean Smith at first doubles, while Urbana’s Kevin Thiel and Daniel Evilsizor won 6-0, 6-2 over Patrick Tarasiewicz and John Beach at second doubles.

Bellefontaine returns to action today at Kenton Ridge.
