Graham, Marysville off to strong start at state meet

COLUMBUS — There were a few mild upsets here Thursday on the first day of action at the OHSAA state wrestling tournament.

The projected champions in the Division I and Division II race are beginning to take control, while the Division III race is shaping up to be another close battle.

Graham is off to another strong start in Division II, while Marysville continues to be a rising talent in Division I.

The Falcons won seven of their eight first-round matches and have all of their wrestlers still alive in the tournament. Eli Stickley (106), Eli Seipel (113), Brent Moore (120), Micah Jordan (132), Alex Marinelli (152), Bo Jordan (160) and Lane Thomas (170) all advanced to today’s quarterfinal round, while Anthony Welty (220) is alive in the consolation bracket.

The most impressive win was by Thomas, who beat defending state champion Chris Moore of Clyde 7-1 in the first round.
