Pirates end regular season with win

Riverside’s girls basketball team rallied for a 42-41 overtime victory against host Northeastern on Thursday to end the regular season on a positive note.

The win gives the Pirates a final regular-season mark of 5-17.

Northeastern held a 22-13 lead at halftime and a 31-22 advantage after three quarters, but the Pirates battled back in the final period.

The Pirates outscored the Jets 13-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game 35-35 at the end of regulation.

Riverside was one point better in overtime to escape with the win.

Monica Hurley led the Pirates with 13 points, five steals and three assists, while Brooke Hickey and Karli Castle each added six points.

In junior varsity action, Riverside defeated Northeastern 24-15. Emily Teague had nine points to lead the Pirates.

Riverside begins sectional tournament action Saturday, Feb. 16, against Ft. Loramie at Sidney High School.
