Knights march past Tigers in non-league hoops tilt

West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team could not slow down visiting Greenon on Thursday as the Tigers suffered a 52-33 non-league loss.

The Knights, who currently lead the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division, are now 7-3 on the season. The Tigers drop their record to 4-6.

Greenon got off to a hot start and led 18-8 after the opening quarter. The Knights later held a 26-14 advantage at halftime.

The visitors continued to stay in control in the second half. Greenon led 40-26 at the end of the third period.

Melany Ward sparked the Tigers’ offense with a game-high 18 points.

Greenon won the junior varsity game 58-26. Madi Oelker paced the Tigers with eight points.

WL-Salem travels to Springfield Catholic Central on Saturday for an Ohio Heritage Conference contest.
