Tigers extend winning streak

West Liberty-Salem’s boys basketball team used a big fourth-quarter effort to down visiting Northeastern 61-46 and extend its winning streak to four games Friday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.

The Tigers are now 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the OHC, while the Jets drop to 2-3, 2-1.

WL-Salem emerged with a 22-18 lead after the opening quarter. The Tigers outscored the Jets 13-9 in the second quarter to take a 35-27 advantage at halftime.

Northeastern continued to climb back in the third quarter with a 12-9 effort, but still trailed 44-39.

WL-Salem was able to secure the win with a 17-7 run in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers saw plenty of balanced scoring again on Friday with five players reaching double digits.

Landon Hormann led the way with 14 points, Travis Mayse and Grant Burden each had 13 points and Ben Burden and Connor Woods both had 10 points.

Northeastern edged WL-Salem 34-32 in the junior varsity game. Ross Kelley led the Tigers with 11 points.

WL-Salem travels to Cedarville on Tuesday for an OHC matchup.
