Courtney Stewart has been on a mission to earn the opportunity to play college softball.
Her dedication and hard work has paid off as the Benjamin Logan senior pitcher signed Wednesday to play at Urbana University, an NCAA Division II program.
“I’ve always wanted to play softball in college,” said Stewart. “I’ve played travel ball for seven years and worked really hard on the field. I also worked hard on my academics so I could get to play softball in college.”
Stewart had several options of where to play collegiate softball, but ultimately the Blue Knights offered what the Raiders’ ace was looking for.
“There were other options on the table, but Urbana was the one that best suited me,” said Stewart. “The small class sizes, small campus and the fact it is close to home are all things I liked. They also have a good softball program.”
“I went to some summer camps there and really like their team. I enjoyed all the players and their coach is very nice. It will also be a great chance to play with (former Ben Logan catcher) Sierra (Cronkleton) again.”
