Mad River Mountain kicks off its 51st season Sunday with its annual ski patrol ski swap and Capital Rail Jam.
The free event runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The ski swap takes place in the main base lodge and features sales on new and used ski and snowboard equipment. New this year, the patrol has expanded the sale to include outdoor gear, such as camping equipment, kayaks and other outdoor apparel.
Those interested in taking items to sell are asked to arrive at the lodge by 9 a.m. to have their items inventoried and displayed.
Although it is not yet cold enough to make snow, the rail jam offers riders the chance to compete on a course made up of 50,000 pounds of shaved ice. Those wishing to participate must sign a waiver and wear a helmet.
Food and beverages will be available throughout the day.
