In what has become a tradition for the West Liberty-Salem football program, the Tigers are headed to the playoffs.
A perfect run through the regular season resulted in WL-Salem landing a home game for the first round of the postseason. The Tigers (10-0) host Dayton Christian at 7 p.m. Saturday.
In the final release of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s football computer ratings, the Tigers were fourth in Division V, Region 20. The top four teams in each region get to host games in the first round.
The Tigers have now qualified for the playoffs in seven of the last nine years.
Like WL-Salem, Dayton Christian also went unbeaten in the regular season. Dayton Christian features standout junior running back Heath Harding, who has already received several Division I scholarship offers.
Triad also received some good news Sunday. Despite losing to WL-Salem in the regular-season finale Friday, the Cardinals landed a playoff berth. They finished seventh in Region 20 and will travel to second-seeded Cincinnati Summit Country Day (10-0) for a 7 p.m. start Saturday.
This marks the first time since 2006 that Triad will play in the postseason.
Look for much more playoff coverage on the Tigers and Cardinals later this week in the Examiner.
