When things go wrong, somebody has to get blamed. That is the reality of our present day society.
After Urban Meyer left Florida two years ago following a pair of national championship seasons, the Gators fell on hard times.
There were a variety of reasons for the Gators’ struggles in 2011. There was an entirely new coaching staff and a lot of young players were being inserted into key roles.
Instead of first-year head coach Will Muschamp shouldering the blame for the Gators’ 7-6 campaign last year, the barbs were unleashed on Meyer. Florida press as well as talking heads on ESPN faulted Meyer for leaving the program in what many called a mess. Despite landing top recruiting classes every year he was in Gainesville, Meyer was criticized heavily for “leaving the cupboard bare.”
That cupboard has apparently been restocked very quickly as the Gators are undefeated going into tomorrow’s game against Georgia.
It is funny how all of the bare cupboard talk regarding Meyer has gone away. The reality is that the Gators are winning with players that were mainly recruited by Meyer. Instead of Florida fans blaming their former coach, maybe they should be thanking him some for their perfect start.
