After a tremendous freshman year in which he was match medalist nine times, there were giant expectations for West Liberty-Salem golfer Nick Sims this fall.
He got off to a bit of a slow start to the season, but he answered those expectations with a clutch performance at last Thursday’s Division III district tournament at Weatherwax Golf Course.
Sims shot a 75 at the challenging Weatherwax course and then survived a three-hole playoff to earn a berth in the state tournament Friday and Saturday at North Star Golf Club in Sunbury.
“I was frustrated earlier in the season because I wasn’t playing as well as I wanted to,” said Sims. “I’ve just tried to do a lot of practicing. I’ve been putting better lately and I’ve been hitting the ball better, too.”
