West Liberty-Salem’s football team overcame a series of lightning delays to handle host Springfield Catholic Central 25-6 on Friday in an Ohio Heritage Conference contest.

The Tigers march to 5-0 overall and are 2-0 in the OHC. The Irish remain winless at 0-5, 0-2.
Riley Sims recorded a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to give WL-Salem a 7-0 lead.
The Tiger defense added points in the first quarter when Matt Ulmer recorded a safety to make the score 9-0.
In the second quarter, Catholic Central’s Dimitrious Dimitroff broke free for a 57-yard TD run. The extra-point attempt missed, making the score 9-6.
WL-Salem pulled away later in the second quarter when Sims threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Ross Hickenbottom. That gave the Tigers a 16-0 lead at halftime.
Sims added another score for WL-Salem in the third quarter with a 1-yard TD run. His third touchdown made the score 23-6.
The Tigers’ defense recorded a second safety when Logan Stapleton tackled the SCC ball carrier in the end zone, making it 25-6.
Neither team was able to score in the fourth quarter.
Individual stats were not reported.
WL-Salem is back in action Friday at Northeastern for another OHC contest.
