Bellefontaine’s varsity volleyball team pulled out an 18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13 victory over Wapakoneta on Saturday.
The Chiefs are now 6-3 on the season.
Trailing two sets to one, Bellefontaine went on a 10-2 scoring run to win the fourth set.
After trailing 7-0 in the final set, the Chiefs fought back to get the win.
Leading the Chiefs were Kameren Haley with 20 kills and two blocks and Jaelyn Jester, who was 26-27 serving, 92-93 setting and had 27 assists and 13 digs.
Also for the Chiefs, Carley Strzalka was 24-24 serving and had nine digs, Shelbi Kauffman was 12-13 serving with 35 digs, Jessica Kinchen was 13-13 serving and had 28 digs, Whitney Rader was 15-15 serving, Kenzie Brunswick had seven kills and Jazmyn Haley added 12 kills and four blocks.
The junior varsity team was defeated 25-18, 25-20.
The Chiefs are back in action Tuesday at home vs. Tippecanoe. They will be honoring Joy Dela Pena, a BHS student who recently passed away, during the match and are requesting that fans wear orange in support of Dela Pena.
Indian Lake wins two at Sidney
Indian Lake’s varsity volleyball team won a pair of matches at Sidney on Saturday.
The Lakers beat Houston 8-25, 25-22, 25-22 and dropped the host Yellow Jackets 23-25, 25-16, 25-22.
Indian Lake is now 8-5 on the season.
Claire Maier had a strong day for the Lakers, notching 23 assists in each match. She also had eight kills on 14 attempts against Sidney.
Sydney Miller also had a stellar passing and defensive effort for the Lakers.
Indian Lake’s junior varsity team lost to Houston 25-13, 25-12 and fell to Sidney 25-11, 25-19. Kayleigh Heitcamp stood out for her aggressive all-around play and Caylee Wurster was strong offensively for the Lakers.
The Lakers play at Greenon on Tuesday.
Ridgemont goes 1-2 at Ridgedale tourney
Ridgemont’s volleyball team finished with a 1-2 record at the Ridgedale Invitational on Saturday.
The Gophers opened with a 25-8, 25-18 loss to East Knox.
For Ridgemont, Whitney Arseneau had three kills and five digs, Toshia VanBuskirk had nine digs, Sydney Arseneau was 20-20 setting with five assists and Amber Creviston had 12 digs.
Ridgemont then lost to Gahanna Christian 25-13, 25-20.
In the loss, Bailey Wagner recorded three kills, Whitney Arseneau had four kills, Logan Hill had six assists on 12-12 setting, Riley Drumm had seven digs and Sydney Arseneau had two assists.
Ridgemont then won over Marion Catholic 25-19, 25-23.
VanBuskirk paced the winning effort with 11 digs, two kills and two aces, Hill was 20-20 setting with four assists and was 11-11 serving with two aces, Drumm had four kills and was 3-3 serving and Ashton McCullough had two kills.
The Gophers (1-8) play at home against Riverside on Thursday.
Botkins trips Riverside
Riverside’s volleyball team was defeated by Botkins 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 in non-league action Saturday.
“The team is improving,” said Riverside head coach Wendy Cromer. “The last two matches we have really fought hard and I know things are going to come together. I believe in their abilities and have seen improvement. Now the key is for them to believe.”
For the Pirates, Kerri Meade tallied 12 kills, two digs, two points and one block assist, Morgan Robison had 14 digs and seven points, Brooke Hickey contributed 15 assists, one dig, four points and two kills and Stephanie Newland had nine points, three aces, five kills and three digs.
Riverside returns to action Thursday at Ridgemont.
Ben Logan freshmen win two
The Benjamin Logan freshman volleyball team came away with two wins in a home tri-match Saturday.
The Raiders opened with a 25-19, 18-25, 32-30 win over Marion Pleasant and then defeated Bradford 25-23, 25-7.
On the day, Darrien Bricker contributed nine kills and six digs, Kate Campbell had nine kills and 12 digs, Megan Rutan added 10 kills and four aces and Natilie Drumm chipped in eight kills.
