It has been four months since West Liberty-Salem’s Meghan Vogel made national news with her thrilling act of sportsmanship at the state track and field meet, but the WL-Salem distance star continues to be recognized for her kindness.
Vogel, who helped Arlington’s Arden McMath across the finish line in the 3,200-meter run at the Division III state meet in June, has been selected as the recipient of the United States Olympic Committee’s Jack Kelly Fair Play Award.
The award recognizes an athlete, coach or official for an outstanding act of fair play and sportsmanship. The honor is one of four annual awards presented by the USOC. The awards will be presented during the 2012 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Assembly, which takes place Sept. 20-21 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Vogel is now a senior at WL-Salem.
