JOY DELA PENA
Playing with heavy hearts, Bellefontaine’s girls soccer team squeezed out a 2-0 shutout over visiting Urbana on Wednesday in a Central Buckeye Conference matchup.
The Chieftains move their record to 1-1 overall and start CBC play at 1-0. The Hillclimbers are 2-1-2, 1-1.
It was the first game for Bellefontaine following the death of team member Joy Dela Pena. She passed away Friday at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
A popular teammate and student at BHS, Bellefontaine’s football team wore orange socks Friday night against Sidney in honor of Dela Pena and the soccer team dedicated Wednesday’s game to her memory.
“I thought we played well for not playing a game in 11 days and going though a difficult week with the passing of a teammate,” said BHS girls head coach Matt Price. “I was proud of the girls for being able to focus and get the job done.”
