Tigers blast Trojans for first victory of the season

West Liberty-Salem’s boys soccer team grabbed its first win of the season Tuesday after racing past visiting Southeastern 6-0 in an Ohio Heritage Conference matchup.

The Tigers are now 1-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the OHC, while the Trojans fall to 0-5, 0-2.

WL-Salem jumped out to a 3-0 lead at halftime with goals from Michael McIntosh, Felix Oehring and Tyler LeVan.

The lead continued to grow in the second half for the Tigers with three more goals. Scoring for WL-Salem were Grant Burden, Ricky Lowe and Cole McDaniel.

McDaniel also had two assists, while Cody Taylor and Garrett Conklin each had one assist.

WL-Salem hosts Benjamin Logan on Saturday in a local non-league matchup.


Tigers blast Trojans

West Liberty-Salem’s girls soccer team dominated visiting Southeastern 9-0 on Tuesday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.

The Tigers improve to 2-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the OHC.

Melany Ward fueled WL-Salem’s offense with three goals, while Shonda Gieseke had two goals.

Also scoring a goal each for the Tigers were Alandra Cox, Annika Wolfe, Abigail Rabenstein and Catherine Williams.

Aiding with one assist each were Lindsay Hostetler, Wolfe, Kelsi Dowden, Erin Barrett and Carissa Magnuson.

Defensively, April Kelley and Lauren Godwin each had one save at goal.

WL-Salem hosts Anna on Thursday in non-league action.
