The weight of the world soon will be bearing down on Riverside’s powerlifting team as it prepares for the World Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation World Championships in October in Boston.

Seven lifters from the Pirates’ squad have qualified to compete in the world class event: seniors Austin Glasgow, Kyle Plank, Zach Stewart and freshman Taylor Stevens, along with RHS graduates Mason Harbour, Cheritha Schaffer and Dana Bell.
Riverside’s lifters compete Sunday, Oct. 28.
“It’s hard to contain the nerves as we get closer to the meet,” said Glasgow. “It will be exciting and you get to meet people from all over the world. The excitement will just get even bigger when we get there.”
“I think all of the kids will do really well,” said RHS powerlifting coach Scott Stewart. “I want them to go out and do their best. If that means they get last, then they get last. If that means they get first and set a world record, then great.
