West Liberty-Salem’s girls soccer team raced to a 9-0 win over host Mechanicsburg on Thursday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.
The Tigers improve to 1-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the OHC.
Shonda Gieseke had a hat trick to power WL-Salem’s scoring attack.
Also for the Tigers, Melany Ward tallied two goals, while Addy Hartsel, Maddie Gantz, Ashleigh Gieseke and Hailey Miller each had one goal.
Savannah Marceau provided two assists and Annika Wolfe had one assist.
Defensively, April Kelley and Alandra Cox each had a save at goal.
WL-Salem hosts Southeastern on Tuesday in OHC action.
Braves top Lakers
Springfield Shawnee’s girls soccer team pulled away for a 6-1 win over host Springfield Shawnee on Thursday in a Central Buckeye Conference game.
Hannah Dye scored the long goal for the Lakers.
“Four of their goals were from long distance that just dropped in the upper corners of the goal,” said Lakers’ head coach Skip Oliver. “We were able to keep them from scoring from inside the box. Last year we lost to them 11-0. We just need to keep improving every game.”
Indian Lake travels to Tecumseh on Wednesday for a CBC matchup.
WL-Salem ties Botkins
West Liberty-Salem’s boys soccer team battled host Botkins to a 1-1 tie on Thursday in a non-league meeting.
The Tigers are now 0-3-1 on the season, while the Trojans improve to 3-0-1.
Garrett Conklin scored the lone goal for WL-Salem off an assist from Grant Burden.
Defensively, Sam Warye had nine saves at goal.
