Longtime friends, old teammates and now, new rivals.
Payton Printz and Dave Coburn have a long history together. The current head coaches at Triad and Indian Lake, respectively, played college football together at Ohio Northern University.
Printz and Coburn will reunite Friday when Triad hosts the Lakers for the season opener.
“Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think Dave and I would be coaching against each other like this,” said Printz. “We have been friends for a long time and we keep in touch. I am excited for the opportunity to coach against him.”
Printz graduated from ONU in 1985 and went on to coach the defensive line the following season. Coburn continued to play for the Polar Bears as a tight end.
Facing a friend, former teammate and former coach will be a unique experience for Coburn.
“It will be a special game for Payton and me,” said Coburn. “But it will also be special for both communities. I know both teams are looking to get their season off to a good start. This is an important game for a lot of reasons.”
