Week 1 rundown

Chiefs can’t slow down Redskins in debut of AcuSport Stadium

The visiting Wapakoneta Redskins scored on all three of their first-half possessions and rushed for 302 yards on the night en route to a 28-6 win over Bellefontaine in the dedication game for AcuSport Stadium.

The Chiefs showed off their new-look stadium, which features an artificial playing surface and a new scoreboard complete with a large video screen.

Unfortunately for Bellefontaine, a win was not in the cards as the Redskins dominated the line of scrimmage.

Cardinals answer challenge, clip Lakers

A challenge was issued at halftime Friday inside the Triad football team’s locker room. Not by the coaches, but by some of the players to their teammates.

That challenge was answered as Triad rallied in the fourth quarter to edge visiting Indian Lake 20-18 in the season opener.

Ben Logan opens new era with victory over Fairbanks

A new era of Benjamin Logan football got off to a winning start Friday night.

First-year head coach Jeff Fay saw his Raiders run away for a 37-19 victory over visiting Fairbanks in the season opener.

The Raiders led 16-13 at halftime and then outscored the Panthers 21-6 over the final two quarters to pull away for the win.

Ben Logan piled up 376 yards of offense. Senior running back Brady Bechtel powered the Raiders with 146 rushing yards and a touchdown.

WL-Salem routs Greenon in shortened game

West Liberty-Salem’s football team needed just two quarters to wear down host Greenon on Friday. Mother Nature then took care of the rest.

The Tigers jumped out to a 33-0 lead at halftime and the game was called from there because of lightning in the area.

Even with just two quarters of play, WL-Salem put on an impressive display. The Tigers piled up 313 yards of total offense, while the defense limited the Knights to just 43 yards.
