NEW CARLISLE — Although many of the players are new, Indian Lake left here again Saturday as sectional champions.

The third-seeded Lakers, who entered this season with four returning letterwinners, breezed past second-seeded Urbana 26-24, 25-21, 25-17 in a Division II sectional final at Tecumseh High School.

Indian Lake (20-5) advances to play Cincinnati McNicholas at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Kettering Fairmont for the district title.

“To win the sectional again says a lot about these girls and their work ethic,” said Indian Lake head coach Mandy Tidwell. “They have a great desire to win.

“We only had four letterwinners back from last year and really only one of those girls is playing the same position. The girls have really improved throughout the season.”

The Lakers and Hillclimbers split a pair of matches during the regular season and a fierce battle was expected in the rubber match Saturday. But after Indian Lake pulled out the win in the first game, Urbana never recovered.

“Our game plan was to get an early lead and use that momentum to carry us through the match,” said Tidwell. “The girls executed that game plan to perfection. Urbana only had the lead three times and never led by more than a point.”

Sadie Oyer had 16 kills, three aces on 24-15 servings, five stuff blocks and five digs to spark the Laker attack.

Devin Grandi provided five kills, seven digs and was 6-6 on serves received, while Kirsten Brademeyer also had a strong match with six digs and 18 assists on 37-37 setting.

Indian Lake also received contributions from Lauren Brademeyer (10 digs), Jessica Lininger (seven digs), Kaylee Clark (six kills on 14-14 hitting, three stuff blocks), Tonya Haley (six digs), Sabine Berkemeyer (two kills), Brooke Walton (10 assists on 41- 41 setting, six digs), Sara Tevis (nine digs) and Cori Blackburn (two aces on 9-9 serving).
