NEW CARLISLE — Indian Lake made a statement early here Tuesday that it was not going to overlook Greenon.

The third-seeded Lakers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in game one and went on to record a 25-13, 25-19, 25-15 win over the Knights in Division II sectional tournament opener at Tecumseh High School.

Indian Lake, now 18-5 on the season, advances to play fourthseeded Bellefontaine in a semifinal match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

“We got off to that 10-0 start in the first game and I think that set the momentum for us,” said Indian Lake head coach Mandy Tidwell. “We have a lot of girls new to the varsity level and it was nice to come out and get a tournament win in dominating fashion.”

Devin Grandi tallied 11 kills and three digs to spark the Lakers.

Grandi received plenty of support. Sadie Oyer had 10 kills on 21-24 hitting and registered two stuff blocks and Lauren Brademeyer was 10-10 serving, 9-9 on serves received and had 11 digs to aid the attack.

Also contributing to the Laker victory were Kaylee Clark (three kills, four digs, 10-10 serving), Brooke Walton (15 assists on 33-33 setting, seven digs), Tonya Haley (three kills, four digs), Kirsten Brademeyer (three aces on 14- 15 serving, 16 assists on 31-31 setting, seven digs), Sabine Berkemeyer (four kills, four digs) and Sara Tevis (11 digs, four kills).

Indian Lake now prepares to face the rival Chieftains on Thursday. The two teams met once during the regular season, with Bellefontaine pulling out a win in five games.

“I expect it to be a very hard-fought game,” said Tidwell. “We have to come out and play at the top of our game. We have to play well in every aspect, especially on defense. Bellefontaine has some good hitters and we have to contain them if we want to be successful.”
