Indian Lake’s girls soccer team earned revenge from an earlier season loss Monday and received a berth in the next round of the sectional tournament.

The host Lakers, who lost to Urbana during the regular season, defeated the Hillclimbers 2-1 in a Division II girls soccer tournament opener.

Indian Lake advances to play third-seeded Bethel on Thursday.

The game is at 6 p.m. at Bethel. The Lakers took a 1-0 lead with 7:27 remaining in the first half. Ashley Oakley scored a goal on an assist from Michelle Herren.

Oakley scored another goal, this one coming just 40 seconds into the second half off a corner kick from Chelsea Cramer, to give Indian Lake a 2-0 advantage.

Urbana later got on the board with a goal, but the Lakers held on down the stretch to stay alive in tourney play.

“I was a bit concerned on how we would come out after the loss (to Anna) on Saturday, but the girls came out ready to play against a good Urbana team,” said Indian Lake head coach Scott Cramer. “This game was a total team effort.”

Indian Lake is now 9-7-1 on the season.
