Fast start powers Lakers past Graham

Fresh off of last week’s dramatic comeback win over Urbana, Indian Lake’s football team used that momentum to take a big halftime lead in a 41-27 win over host Graham on Friday.

The Lakers roared to a 41- 7 lead at halftime to take control early agains the Falcons in their Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division matchup.

Turnovers were an issue for both teams as the squads combined for 10 in the game.

The win improves Indian Lake to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the CBC Mad River division. Graham falls to 2-6, 1-2.

Indian Lake’s offense ended the night with 297 yards (206 rushing, 91 passing).

Indian Lake’s first score came on a Thomas Taylor 2- yard run with 7:08 left in the opening quarter.

The Lakers then used an Isaac Reichert fumble recovery to set up Nate Harmon for a 3-yard TD run. That put Indian Lake ahead 14-0.

Graham got on the scoreboard when Casey Crable punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to make the score 14-7.

On the ensuing kick off, Indian Lake’s Dylon Sullivan returned the ball to Graham’s 20-yard line. That eventually set up a 2-yard touchdown run by Harmon to make it 21- 7 with 10:22 left in the second.

Indian Lake then converted another turnover into points off a Tyler Maddox interception. That allowed Taylor to race 22 yards for his second score. A failed extra point attempt put the Lakers up 27-7.

Maddox then came through again when he picked up a Graham fumble and rumbled 20 yards for another score. That gave Indian Lake a 34-7 lead with 4:35 left in the first half.

Taylor ended the Laker scoring parade with a 9-yard touchdown run with 1:17 before halftime to make the score 41-7.

In the second half, Graham used three Laker turnovers to reach the end zone.

Harmon led the Lakers ground attack with 122 yards on 21 carries, while Taylor had 71 yards on 16 carries.

Reichert led in the receiving department with 46 yards on two receptions.

The Lakers travel to Ben Logan on Friday in a CBC Mad River division matchup.
