Indian Lake grapplers knock off Columbus DeSales Indian Lakes wrestling team earned a big win Thursday night as it knocked off perennial power Columbus DeSales in a tri-meet. The Lakers won 43-27 over the host Stallions, who were ranked sixth in Division II. Indian Lake also dropped Columbus East 64-6. I am very pleased with how we wrestled, said Lakers head coach Bill Fulton. The guys came ready to wrestle. We pretty much took it to them. We won matches at weight classes I think DeSales thought they would squeak by at. We have been pumped for the past couple of days about this matchup. I felt we could beat them and the guys wrestled well. Wins against DeSales came from Chris Schulz (112), Adam Witt (125), Nate Harmon (135), Mikael Neeley (140), Kevin Christman (145), Arron Witt (171), Matt Marshall (189) and Thomas Taylor (215). Schulz pinned Dom Pizzuro (:52), Adam Witt pinned Dan Harr (1:42), Harmon pinned Myles Grimmard (3:02) and Neeley earned a 14-10 decision over Carsen VanHorn. At that point, Indian Lake led the dual 21-12. Christman (145) then earned a big win as he beat district placer Reno Bernardo by a 14-4 major decision. Three straight pins followed with Arron Witt, who pinned Evan Killilea (no time available), Marshall, who pinned Malcolm Burrell (2:23) and Taylor, who pinned Joe Kiley (2:36). The Lakers forfeited the heavyweight bout. Kevin had a real nice win over Bernardo and Arron Witt did a nice job fighting back to get us a pin, said Fulton. Matt Marshall also did a real nice job pinning Burrell. The Lakers won every weight class except heavyweight against Columbus East, which Indian Lake forfeited. |
