Sadie Oyer returned from injury and put forth a stellar effort, but Indian Lake’s girls basketball team came up a point short Friday against host Urbana.

The Hillclimbers outscored Indian Lake 17-13 in the fourth quarter to escape with a 57-56 win over the Lakers in a Central Buckeye Conference contest.

The loss drops Indian Lake to 9-9 overall and 7-8 in the CBC, while the Hillclimbers improve to 10-7, 9-5.

“It was a hard-fought battle,” said Indian Lake head coach Mike Pequignot. “We just came up a little short.”

Indian Lake took a 43-40 lead into the fourth quarter.

But the Hillclimbers were able to jump ahead in the final stanza to come away with their win.

“We had some opportunities to tie it up at the end of the game, but we just fell a little short tonight,” said Pequignot.

Oyer, who has been out since mid-December with a knee injury, tallied 17 points and nine rebounds to power the Lakers.

“Sadie had a great game,” said Pequignot. “It is nice to have her back.”

Ashley Oakley scored 11 points, Laura Blust had nine and Chelsea Ball and Katelyn Stannard each added six for the Lakers.

Allie Leopard fueled the Hillclimbers with 24 points and Jamie McIntire scored 14 points.

The Lakers won the reserve game 39-33. Emily Watkins led the Lakers with 15 points.

Indian Lake hosts Riverside on Monday for a non-league game.
