Fast start sends Laker girls past Greenon Indian Lakes girls basketball team jumped out to an early lead Tuesday en route to a 58-43 win over host Greenon in Central Buckeye Conference action. The Lakers improve their record to 9-8 overall and 7-7 in the CBC, while the Knights fall to 8-10, 5-9. It was a great team effort, said Indian Lake head coach Mike Pequignot. All the girls contributed and shot the ball with confidence. It was a nice road win. The Lakers shot 53 percent from the field and held the Knights to just 32 percent. We played much better defensively, added Pequignot. Leading the Lakers were Ashley Oakley and Laura Blust. Oakley scored 21 points with six rebounds and Blust scored 19 points. Ashley and Laura had good games, said Pequignot. Laura shot well from the outside and Ashley did a good job of taking the ball to the basket. Cori Blackburn and Katie Harvey each chipped in seven points for the Lakers. Indian Lake held a 24-9 advantage at the end the first quarter. Greenon battled back to outscore the Lakers 14-5 in the second stanza. But Indian Lake still held a 29-23 lead. A 15-9 run by the Lakers in the third period increased their lead to 44-32. Indian Lake then held on the rest of the way for the win. The Indian Lake reserve team won 58-43. Brooke Chismar led the Lakers with 10 points. Indian Lake travels to Urbana on Friday for a CBC matchup. |
