Accused killer explores insanity plea Laura Annons son has filed a not guilty by reason of insanity plea putting off his trial until January. Brandon Williams, 23, currently lodged in the Logan County Jail, has been charged with aggravated murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, abuse of a corpse and safecracking in the mid-December slaying of his 51-year-old mother. The murder, assault and kidnapping charges all carry a specification that a gun was used in the crime. She was found brutally beaten and shot several times Dec. 18 after deputies of the Logan County Sheriffs Office performed a welfare check at her 8854 Prince Road, Lakeview, home. Mr. Williams was found unconscious from an apparent drug overdose in his bedroom at the home. His mother had been dead for several days. She was found near the front door. Monday, Logan County Common Pleas Judge Mark S. OConnor accepted the plea filing, setting in motion a series of clinical evaluations that will postpone any potential trial. First, Mr. Williams will be sent to the Western Ohio Forensic Center in Dayton. Once that evaluation is done and a report submitted, both the Logan County Prosecutors Office and defense attorneys Marc Triplett and Steve Fansler will have time to review the findings and decide to ask for further evaluations. Judge OConnor said most likely the case would have to be delayed and he changed the four-day trial start from Sept. 22 to Jan. 26. |
