Man seriously injured

Michael Wykoff, 55, of Columbus, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance after a crash around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report that he was westbound on U.S. Route 33 when his pickup struck the rear of an SUV driven by Gina Walke, 48, of Lakeview, that was stopped in traffic.

Mr. Wykoff was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Indian Lake EMS with serious injuries. Ms. Walke reportedly sustained minor visible injuries but was not transported by a squad.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Mr. Wykoff’s pickup sustained disabling damage, while Ms. Walke’s vehicle was functionally damaged.

Name still not released in fatal hit and run

Authorities still have not named the suspect in a July 11 hit and run incident that killed Jeffrey Gates, 48, of Port Jefferson, and injured his son, Virgil Gates, 24, on State Route 366 near Lakeview Harbor. Under state law, the motorist could face a third-degree felony once charges are filed.
