Sheriff’s department asssists in state investigation of local doctor

A report filed at the Logan County Sheriff’s Office indicates detectives and the Ohio State Medical Board are investigating alleged misappropriation of money and fraudulent prescriptions at a Russells Point doctor’s office.

Deputies responded at about 6:15 p.m. Friday to One Aries Center, 8200 State Route 366, after Ellen M. Dixon, of Louisville, Ky., reported her keys were missing. They had reportedly been replaced with the keys of another employee at the office.

During the investigation, Ms. Dixon, a consultant hired by Dr. Robert E. Dressler to look into the office’s medical billing practices, told deputies she discovered the money and prescription drug issues as she did the internal investigation.

Detectives then obtained a search warrant and reportedly removed computers and other information.

The primary doctor at the office is Dr. Paul V. Bonetzky of Huntsville, and his son Dean P. Bonetzky of Huntsville, is the office manager, according to the report. Dr. Dressler was welcomed to the office with a ribbon-cutting ceremony just over a month ago.

Dr. Bonetzky said he has been advised by his lawyer not to discuss the case publicly.

Man charged for fleeing deputies

A Defiance man was arrested for a number of charges after he allegedly led deputies on a high-speed chase Saturday morning.

A deputy running radar along northbound State Route 117 reportedly clocked Joshua G. Reed, 28, traveling 83 mph and attempted to stop him, but the driver continued driving at high rates of speed before turning west onto State Route 273.

The deputy continued to follow, but slowed after the suspect’s car nearly struck a pedestrian and his dog. The vehicle was found stopped and unoccupied on Beechwood Cove.

Other deputies who responded to the area reportedly found Mr. Reed soaking wet.

He was charged with failure to comply with a police officer, two counts of driving under suspension, reckless operation, speeding and not wearing a seat belt.

Mr. Reed reportedly tested below the legal limit for alcohol in sobriety tests that were administered.
