Indian Lake board awards contracts for elementary Construction on a new 92,000-square-foot elementary building could be under way by mid-April after the Indian Lake Board of Education approved more than $13.6 million in contracts for the project. School Superintendent Bill McGlothlin, Ph.D, said the target date for opening the school is August 2009. The bids approved Monday came in $252,000 below estimates, he said. Indian Lake has qualified for up to 33 percent in assistance from the Ohio School Facilities Commission, but that money will not be released before 2012. Ferguson Construction Co. won the general contract bid at $8.328 million. GM Mechanical Inc. will handle plumbing and heating, ventilation and air condition for $3.7 million. The electrical contract went to Sollman Electric Co. at a little more than $1.36 million. Fire suppression was awarded to Vulcan Enterprises Inc. at $200,681 and communications work will be handled by Microman for $189,871. District voters approved a 4.2-mill bond issue in 2006 that will pay off the project in 28 years. Board members accepted the retirements of middle school teacher Barb Mustaine, after 30 years; elementary teacher Linda Benedict, 35 years; and elementary teacher Gaye Earick, 30 years. Diane Gillespie and Don Bauer each was given a threeyear contract as co-principal of the middle school. Each will be paid $75,757.52 in the first year. Vinnie Spirko was given a three-year contract as assistant high school principal starting at $71,089.31. Other contracts were: Jeff Reprogle, two years as director of special education; Mrs. Benedict, one year as educational assistant; and Ginger Hardin, four-hour per week food service. The boards next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. April 21. |
