Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag has determined the cause of death for both teens found dead in a Waynesfield apartment was the result of a drug overdose.

Jesse L. Hicks IV, 19, of Lakeview, and Katreena L. Latimore, 17, of McGuffey, were found deceased in an apartment at 108 E. Ohio St. by the homeowner, David Poe, when he came home from work Saturday morning, Feb. 16. Reports indicate the two had been dead for a period of time before being located.

Autopsy results found primarily heroin and possibly a mix of other drugs in the bodies of both teens.

He said coroners statewide are trying to take the initiative in ongoing talks that hopefully will result in a registry of information to share in an effort to increase awareness and curb occurrences such as this.

“We are seeing more and more mixed drug overdoses,” he said. More often than not, he said, the drugs found in overdose victims is of the prescribed variety, which are hard to regulate once the initial patient leaves the pharmacy with the pills.

No foul play was suspected in the case, but investigators are looking into the possibility the drugs involved being tainted in some way.
