IL Chamber outlines coming attractions

Executive Director Pam Miller outlined the activities for the first half of the 2008 season Thursday during a regular meeting of the Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors.

Upcoming events for the lake area include the annual boat show Feb. 29 through March 2, the Maple Syrup Festival on March 15 and 16, and the Indian Lake Fun Ride & Run slated for June 7.

The Antique Appraisal Fair and Movie on the Lake are June 14, boat tours are June 21, the Lakeview Car & Craft Show is June 28, the annual Fireworks Spectacular and fireworks display is July 5 and the Danger Brothers take the beachfront stage on July 19.

In an effort to provide visitors with a comprehensive guide to the Indian Lake area, the board is looking to produce a dedicated visitors’ guide through Freedom Communications Inc., publishers of The Lima News, which also is conducting a feasibility study to produce a weekly newspaper for the area.

Staff members of the Bellefontaine Examiner offered Hubbard Publishing’s services to produce the book, but the board opted to go with the Lima group for the first year’s edition.

The board discussed its application for a $10,000 government grant from the Logan County Commissioners to further its efforts to attract travelers to the area. Part of the proposed grant would go to fund a trip to Las Vegas for four people to attend a tourism convention there.

In other matters, the board approved a rate hike for membership, with fees ranging from $25 for associate members to $300 for large businesses employing more than 50 persons. Mrs. Miller estimates the increase will bring in an additional $7,000 to $8,000 to the annual budget.

The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the chamber office in the Aries Medical Center, Russells Point.
