These are the facts in response to a recent letter to the editor by John Hance: The West Liberty-Salem treasurer is always keeping the board of education posted and informed of future negative events such as the proposed Governor’s Bi-annual State Budget early in the year.
Since the present building was opened (1988) the WL-S District has not asked the voters to approve any new operating levies/new money, only renewal operating levies.
Last year WL-S received in excess of $800,000 for open enrollment “in” students, they fill the spots of taxpaying district students who choose to open enroll “out” attend community/charter schools, or are being home school.
This is the last chance to receive state funding at 71 percent. The state funding is not anticipated to be going away however, the percentage that they will pay will be decreasing, which is what the district has been stating from the start.
