Joe A. Shoemaker, 58, of Rushsylvania, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 21, 2018. Joe was born in Bellefontaine on Dec. 21, 1959, to the late Bruce and Elizabeth Foulk Shoemaker. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Roberts.
A 1978 graduate of Benjamin Logan High School, Joe worked for 32 years with Belletech in Bellefontaine. He was a member of Blackwing Shooting Center in Delaware and Ohio Sports Fitness in Bellefontaine. Joe was very safety-minded, even if doing it the safe way would take longer. He enjoyed working in the garage, mowing the yard on his John Deere, target shooting, listening to his music and taking naps — not necessarily in that order. Joe’s family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his grandkids. Always one to help other people, Joe would do anything for anybody, and not think about it.
Joe is survived by his wife Juanita Cox Shoemaker, whom he married Dec. 21, 1981, in Rushsylvania. He is also survived by children, Ashley (Ray) Jantz of Mississippi, Jeremy Shoemaker of Bellefontaine and Amy Kensler of Greenville; five grandchildren, Aden, Macie, Jake, Alyssa and Abby; six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cayden, Brooklynn, Bayley, Bentley and Bristol; siblings, Jimmy (Sharon) Roberts of Newark, Margie Clark of Celina, Bruce Shoemaker of Rushsylvania and Jer (Melody) Shoemaker of Kenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Joe’s life begins at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb.25 at Goshen Friends Church, Zanesfield, following visitation that begins at 3 p.m. Pastor Wayne Downing officiates. Burial is at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, in Rushsylvania Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine. Express condolences at www.edsfh.com.
