HUFFMAN Meril obit

Meril R. Huffman, 94, of Zanesfield, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born in West Liberty on July 17, 1923, to the late Marston and Nellie Fields Huffman.

On Sept. 18, 1963, Meril married the former Marilyn Hollopeter in Ridgeway and she survives, along with five daughters, Barbara Whitaker, Patty Lewis, Linda (Russ) Shepard, Tami (Thomas Alspaugh) Huffman and Gina (Jamie) Beeney; four sons, Bob (Sandy) Huffman, Richard (Jean) Huffman, Terry (Becky) Huffman and Todd (Eddie) Huffman; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty McClain; a special niece, Cindy Brown; a special friend, Everett Adams; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two sisters; and four brothers.

A U.S. Army veteran, Meril served with the 735th Battalion during WWII. He worked for the railroad for 22 years and retired from Navistar in 1985, following 23 years of service. He was a member of AMVETS Doyle R. Miller Post 39 and the UAW. Meril was honored to be selected as grand marshal of the 2017 Lakeview Memorial Day Parade. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty, where a funeral service begins at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29. Burial follows in North Lewisburg Cemetery with military rites by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
