Shannon Lynn Dyer, 43, of Vandalia, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at the Laurels of Huber Heights.

Shannon was born July 29, 1974, in Dayton, a daughter of Denny and Joyce Bowdle Dyer, who survive in Vandalia. She was a 1993 graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in 1997 and earned her master’s degree from The Ohio State University.

She worked as an intervention specialist for 20 years, finding her ultimate passion serving special needs preschool children in the Mississinawa Valley, Dayton Public and Olentangy Local school districts.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Lawrence Dyer; maternal grandparents, William and Peg Bowdle of Bellefontaine.

She also is survived by one brother, Tim (Nikki) Dyer of Columbus; nieces, Keegan and Brilyn Dyer; grandmother, Peggy Ann Musser Dyer of Wapakoneta; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Friday, Dec. 1, at the Living Word Church, 926 E. National Road, Vandalia, with Pastor Derrick Hurst officiating.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, the Humane Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Shannon’s memory.

The Dyer family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at the Laurels of Huber Heights, the Kettering Medical Center and especially oncologist, Dr. Joseph Lavelle for the exceptional care and compassion they all offered throughout Shannon’s courageous battle.
