Elizabeth “Liz” Joann Herring, 75, of Sidney, was surrounded by her family when she went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bellefontaine on Jan. 11, 1942, to the late Earl Irvin and Viola Elizabeth Pugh Stayrook. Liz was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Maxine Aler, and brother, Robert “Bob” Stayrook.
A 1960 graduate of Rushsylvania High School, Liz worked nearly 20 years at Copeland’s in Sidney before retiring. She then went on to work and retire from the Sidney City Schools where she was a head cook for many years. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend, Liz loved the Lord, and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sidney.
Liz is survived by the “love of her life”, Robert Stanley Herring, whom she married April 14, 1962, at the Belle Center Church of Christ. She is also survived by a son, Richard “Rick” (Gloria) Herring; daughter, Teresa Herring; grandchildren, Elisa (Cameron) Klump, Erica (Stephen) James, Robert “Robbie” (Leesha) Herring II, Elizabeth Limotta, Savanna Limotta and Katelyn Beemer; great-grandchildren, Jadon, Landon and Makaylyn Klump, Bentley, Piper and Cooper James and Rosella and Raelyn Herring; siblings: Earl “Junior” Stayrook, Chris (Tom) Spain, Dorlean Guthrie, Betty Hennessy, Shirley Ritter, Sharyl Jackson and Phyllis (Kay) Hunt; sister-in-law, Ruth Stayrook; brothers-in-law Ed (Genny) Herring and Joe (Ruth) Herring; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where Pastors John Young and Tom Walters officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery.
