Wanita J. Runkle, 85, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, surrounded by her family at Logan Acres Senior Community.
Wanita was born July 28, 1932, in Williamsport to the late Arthur and Ethel Ladley Gilbert. On Feb. 4, 1973, she married William Forest Runkle, and he survives.
Wanita was active in the Church of Christ in Christian Union for many years. She loved fishing and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and ceramics. She also was an avid gardener.
Wanita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed.
Also surviving are her children, Joe (Linda) Baldwin, Sheila (Rick) Strong, Mike (Karen) Runkle, Deb (Ed) Warnecke, Shari (Randy) Green and Tim (Cheryl) Runkle; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Arthur (Elyse) Gilbert Jr., Pansy Irene (Samuel) Gilbert Skaggs and Glenda J. (David) Smith; sister-in-law, Francis Gilbert; and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Gilbert Shackleford, James Arthur Gilbert, Floyd Wayne Gilbert, Franklin Eugene Gilbert, Norma Jean (Robert) Gilbert Blankenship, Goldie Mae Gilbert, Harold Ray Gilbert, Dorothy Lee Gilbert, Curtis Lee Gilbert, Shirley Maryln (Samuel) Gilbert Hicks, Curly Marion Gilbert and Floyd Ben Gilbert.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Jennings Farley Funeral Home and Crematory, where the funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, following calling that begins at 1 p.m. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery following the service.
