Josie Marie Johnson, 14, of Bellefontaine, died unexpectedly Friday, Nov.10, 2017, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
A freshman honor roll student at Bellefontaine High School and a skilled athlete, she was a member of the high school soccer team. She planned to join the track team this coming season. Since her childhood, she participated in youth soccer, swim team and volleyball. Also known for her artistic talents, she was a doodler and drawer, crafter, poetry writer, sculptor and painter. A creative “do-it-yourselfer,” she loved Pinterest.
She was lovingly known for being a prankster and jokester. Most of all, she embodied compassion for others, supported the weak and weary and held a strong will for her friends. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and granddaughter She was born May 1, 2003, in Marysville and was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Marc B. Johnson Sr., her maternal grandparents, Jack M. and Jo A. Carpenter; an uncle, James Jarvis; and her great-uncle, Ricky Wagner.
She is survived by her parents, Marc and Jo Carpenter Johnson of Bellefontaine; her siblings, Elizabeth (Charles “Thobe” Cunningham) Burkett of Bellefontaine, Allison Johnson of Columbus, Frank Burkett of Marion and Mack Burkett of Marion; her grandmother, Judy A. Johnson of Columbus; two nieces, Isabella Rose and Olivia Grace Cunningham; many uncles and aunts, Matthew and Melissa Johnson, Jack Carpenter, Joe and Carol Carpenter, Jerry and Mary Carpenter, John and Donna Carpenter, Josie and Ronnie Jones, Joyce Price Carpenter, Kristina and Emery Vimalin and JoAnn and Jason Arnold; and several cousins and other relatives and friends.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 E. Fifth St., Marysville. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at New Dover United Methodist Church, 16637 Church Street, (New Dover) Marysville. The Rev. Wayne Engle officiates and burial follows in Mt. Herman Cemetery in Dover Township, Union County, Marysville.
