Richard A. Meeker Sr., 88, of Rushsylvania, passed away peacefully at 12:50 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at Bellefontaine’s Heartland ManorCare.
He was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Urbana, to the late Henry and Celestie Hanson Meeker. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia, Geneva and Julia; two brothers, Henry and George; four sons, Richard Jr., Rick, Daniel and Robert Daniel; and two daughters, Fairy and Cheryl.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jane Cooke Meeker of Rushsylvania, whom he married May 3, 1972; his brother, Howard Meeker of Whitehall; four sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) Meeker of Leavenworth, Kan., Matthew (Danielle) Meeker of Wapakoneta, Mark Meeker of West Liberty and Luke (Shannon) Meeker of Marysville; 16 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Meeker was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from July 28, 1948, to March 30, 1950, and participated in the Allied occupation of Japan at the end of World War II.
He was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 21, with a memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. at Jennings Farley Funeral Home and Crematory, 5591 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty.
