Beulah Mae Spar Hays, 90, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at her residence in rural Ada.
She was born at home in Ada on Oct. 21, 1924, to the late Jesse Roy and Caroline M. Clark Spar.
On May 30, 1948, she married Ralph D. Hays and he preceded her in death Jan. 27, 2010. She also was preceded in death by two grandsons, Cpl. Nathan B. Carse and Corey D. Hays; a brother, Floyd Spar; three sisters, Zona Wyss, Helen Ludwig and Mary Alice Wintzer.
Survivors include children, Bruce (Mindy) Hays of Celina, Janis Hays Carse of Harrod, Donald (Peggy) Hays of West Mansfield, Bradley (Debra) Hays of Ada and Rex (Bonnie) Hays of Spencerport, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
A full-time farmer’s wife and mother, Beulah graduated with an accounting background from Bliss Business College in Columbus and then from the Lima Memorial School of Nursing through the Cadet Nurse Program. She worked as a registered nurse at Lima Memorial Hospital and Gibbons Hospital in Celina.
An Ada High School graduate, she was a life member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church of Ada, where she was active with the Sugar Grovettes Quartet and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Ada Bowling League.
Beulah was in the second class of the Ada Liberty Township EMS Squad training, and then volunteered for many years. She volunteered with the Ada Red Cross. She also was a member of the Ada Area Doctor Search Committee.
Pastor Courtnie Morton officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, where visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6. Burial is in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
