David C. Johnson, 71, of rural Ft. Jennings, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 24, 1942, in Middleburg, to the late Charles E. and Gladys I. Inskeep Johnson.
He married Lyn E. Walp on Dec. 30, 1980, and she survives in rural Ft. Jennings.
He is also survived by two children, Amanda (Ryan) Johnson Snyder and Jeremy Johnson; two sisters, Elinor (Leroy) Dowden and Nancy (Lyle) Boortz; and three grandchildren, Kristine N. Johnson, Matthew B. Johnson and Nicholas J. Johnson.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kristine A. Johnson; two brothers, Max Johnson and Frank Johnson; four sisters, Margaret (Paul) Ansley, Wilma (George) Pavlok, Mary Ann (Michael) Anoles and Juanita (Gay) Flaitz.
Retired from CenturyLink, he was a member of Ft. Jennings American Legion Post 715 and Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Rushmore.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He was a police officer in the village of Ft. Jennings from 1987 to 1990.
He was a member of the Cairo Sportsman’s Club and his hobbies included flying, shooting, reloading, motorcycling, boating, camping and rebuilding cars. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Strayer Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth Street, Delphos, prior to a Celebration of David’s Life at 7 p.m. The Rev. Robert Morrison officiates, military honors will be provided by the Ft. Jennings American Legion Post. Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to the benevolence of the family, St. Rita’s Hospice and charities of the donors’ choices.
