Barbara ‘Grandma’ Coblentz

Barbara “Grandma” Coblentz, 98, of Belle Center, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Jonas Hershberger of Huntsville.

She was born July 12, 1914, to the late Pete H. and Katie Miller Shrock.

Barbara married Henry A. Coblentz on July 11, 1931, and his death on Dec. 13, 1966, left her a widow for 47 years.

Known by many as “Grandma,” Barbara was a member of the Belle Center Amish Church. She loved to quilt, crochet and while helping with catering, she enjoyed serving meals.

She is survived by three sons, Albert (Ada) Coblentz of Homeworth, Leroy Coblentz of Senecaville and Elmer (Rose) Coblentz of Philipsburg, Mont.; four daughters, Edna (Jonas) Hershberger of Huntsville, Barbara Ann (Ernest) Lumley of Bracey, Va., Emma (Harvey) Yoder of Sarasota, Fla., and Ada (Henry) Coblentz of Etowah, N.C.; 55 grandchildren; 208 great-grandchildren; 153 great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law Chris Coblentz of Milroy, Ind.; two brothers, Mose Shrock of Greenville, Pa., and Sam Schrock of Hartville; and a sister, Lydiann Weaver of Milroy, Ind.; and a host of relatives and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by a son, Henry “Sonny” Coblentz of Townville, Pa.; a daughter, Sarah Coblentz of Milroy, Ind.; a stepmother; four brothers, Noah, Henry, John and Enos Shrock; four sisters, Edna Gingerich, Sarah Hershberger, Katie Swartzentruber and Anna Troyer; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Bishop Marcus Schlabach officiates a funeral at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the David Hochstetler residence, 7818 County Road 49, Belle Center. Viewing continues through this evening at the Jonas Hershberger residence. Additional viewing is Sunday evening at the Hartville Conservative Mennonite Church on north Market Avenue, Hartville. A graveside service and burial is at 10 a.m. Monday at Walnut Grove Amish Cemetery, Hartville.
