Yvonne Carpenter, 87, of Lima, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Burton’s Ridge, Lima.
She was born in Urbana on Dec. 17, 1925, a daughter of the late Samuel P. and Thelma Mae Broadstone McClain.
On July 4, 1947, she married Victor Allen Carpenter and he died Sept. 5, 1999. She also was preceded in death by a son, Walter A. Carpenter; and two brothers, Sam P. McClain Jr. and Billie (Katy) McClain.
Survivors include a son, Sean Carpenter of Lima; daughter Viki Bushong of Troy; sister-in-law, Audry McClain of Virginia Beach, Va.; three granddaughters, Emily Carpenter, Jessica (Branden) Albrecht and Sara (Mark) Barr; grandson, Zachary (Melissa) Carpenter; two stepgrandsons, Bradley and Brenton Welker; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A 1943 graduate of Lima South High School, she previously worked at Dr. Heidt’s veterinary clinic and Dr. Carl Zinsmeister’s medical office. Later, she was a medical transcriptionist with Lima Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1993.
She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church since 1962 and its quilting club. Along with quilting, she enjoyed crocheting.
An avid bowler, she and her women’s team won several city championships.
Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
The Rev. James Couser conducts a funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shawnee Chapel Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation, Lima, where visitation begins at 11 a.m. Interment is in St. Matthews Cemetery, Lima.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Firefighters Memorial Museum or the Alzheimer’s Association.
