Lois Elaine Boyer, 74, of Summerfield, Fla., died at 7:34 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Tuscany House Hospice Center in Summerfield, following a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
She was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Arbuckle, Calif., a daughter of the late Warren A. and Edna Mae Carey.
On Dec. 15, 1956, she married Howard Thomas Boyer, who died May 23, 2006 after 49 1/2 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Chester Buzz Carey, who died in October 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Julie A. (Michael) Medford, of Van Wert; Carrie L. (Dan) Finkhousen of Blythewood, S.C., and formerly of Van Wert; a son, Clinton Thomas (Johanna) Boyer of Fairfax Station, Va.; a sister, Sheila Slechta of Roseville, Calif,; and six grandsons.
Mrs. Boyer was a devoted wife and loving mother who graduated from Bellefontaine High School and made her career banking. She was a member of First Baptist Church of the Villages in Summerfield and a former member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert. She was active in various clubs and activities with her community. She enjoyed serving as an usher at the Church on the Square in the The Villages, Fla., and as a volunteer at the Veteran’s Administration and The Villages hospitals.
Calling hours are two hours prior to a 2 p.m. Thursday service officiated by Chaplain Dan Finkhousen at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with burial following in Hartford Cemetery in Spencerville.
