Betty Jean Fortner, 58, of Higginsville, Mo., formerly of Huntsville, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Mo.
She was born Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1954, in Lexington, Mo., a daughter of Dorothy Jean Wegener Fortner, who survives in Higginsville, and the late Harry Otis Fortner. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Fortner and Jaimie Chapman.
Survivors include one niece and three nephews.
A 1973 graduate of Lafayette Co. C-1 High School, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Higginsville and attended Park College in Parkville, Mo. She also was a member of the Huntsville Red Hatters club.
Ms. Fortner worked as a licensed cosmetologist in New York, Ohio and Missouri, and was an office manager at a physician’s office for 25 years, retiring in 2009. She returned to Higginsville from Huntsville in 2009.
Dr. Greg Fine officiates a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoefer Chapel, 1600 Main St., Higginsville, where calling is one hour prior. Private inurnment is at a later date.
Family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
