Alfretta Baber Weaver, 87, of Lima, peacefully slipped from the arms of her family to her mother’s arms and into the hands of God at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, passing away 40 years to the day of her mother’s death.
She was born in Lima on June 1, 1925, a daughter of the late John W. and Vivian A. Dixson Baber.
On June 1, 1946, she married Emmet Daniel Weaver, who died Dec. 12, 2011. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Baber; and seven sisters, Ladonna Weaver, Velma Brown, Arlene Fritz, Marjorie Lange, Magdalena Kimpel, Caroline Place and Walthea Helser.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie J. (Michael) Martin of Bellefontaine and Deborah L. (Daniel) Longmeier of Cridersville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John J. Baber of Lima; two sisters, Oletha (Hank) Zaborniak of Perrysburg and Ploma (Charles) Arnett of Lima; a brother-in-law, Forest Weaver of Lima; sisters-in-law, Lorma Baber of Maplewood, Marian Weaver and Ruth Honert, both of Lima, and Molly Weaver of Florida; and a very special friend, Ruby Dawson of Lima
Previously she worked at Westinghouse Corporation and was a 20-year volunteer with Lima Memorial Health Care Center’s Cerebral Palsy Clinic.
A homemaker who loved children, she will be remembered for her spunkiness and her gift for playing the piano by ear.
In her early years, she loved riding horses and being a sharp shooter.
The Rev. Charles Martindell officiates a funeral at noon Monday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, where visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Shawnee Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Allen County and the Loving Care Hospice of Marysville.
The family thanks the staff at the Gables at Green Pastures for their care and compassion.
