Charles Phillip “Charlie” Wisse, 91, of Marysville, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Carriage Court.

He was born in McGuffey on May 18, 1921, to the late Joseph and Mary Elliott Wisse.

On March 5, 1949, he married Denelda Marie Bostleman at the Dora Lutheran Church in Blocktown and she preceded him in death April 27, 2003. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Asa Wisse.

Survivors include his two sons, Larry (Brenda) Wisse of Marysville and Glenn (Tina) Wisse of New Philadelphia; his granddaughter, Tracy (Ivane) Wisse-Koridze; several nieces and nephews; and his church family.

A farmer, Charlie worked as an engineer with United Telephone Company for more than 30 years.

He was a 1939 graduate of McGuffey High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Charlie was proud to have witnessed the first take-off and landing of a fighter jet aboard an aircraft carrier when he served aboard the USS Charger.

He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marysville, and was active with the 79’ers and the Christ Care group.

He was an independent man who enjoyed his home life, watching sports on TV and rooting for the Buckeyes. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandpa and as a devoted husband.

The family takes great comfort in knowing Charlie has been reunited in Heaven with his wife whom he missed greatly.

The Rev. Barry Scott officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marysville. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mannasmith Funeral Home, Marysville. Burial with military honors by the Union County Honor Guard is in Oakdale Cemetery.
