Martha E. Leiss, 93, of Jackson Center, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Logan Acres Care Center.
She was born in Shelby County on June 24, 1919, to the late Wilbur and Dora Mumaw Magoto. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Leiss on Sept. 25, 2001; a son, Ronald Leiss; a son-in-law, Roger Myers; two brothers; five sisters; and two grandsons.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Margee) Leiss of Bellefontaine, Joe (Ann) Leiss of Junction City, Kan., Mary Ellen Myers, Shirley (Dennis) Brown and Linda (Paul) Mann, all of Jackson Center and Pat (Jerry) Stewart of Sidney; and three sisters-in-law, Hope Magoto of Urbana, Joan Kinniger of Maplewood and Mary Bell of DeGraff; 14 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 18 great-stepgrandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one due in April; six great-great-stepgrandchildren; a close friend, Cleda Dysert of Alger; and many nieces and nephews.
A homemaker and farmer’s wife, Martha loved her family and home. She helped with the family farm, even driving tractors, and she loved working and maintaining her yard and flowers.
Pastor Shannon Vogelezang officiates a funeral at noon Wednesday at the Eichholtz Daring and Sanford Funeral Home, Jackson Center, where calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial is in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
