Naomi Ruth Jackson, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Plain City on Dec. 14, 1926, a daughter of the late William E. and Glendora Dolby Saunders. She also was preceded in death by her stepfather, Sterling Black; a brother, Raymond P. Saunders; and a brother-in-law, Milton Mitchell.
On Nov. 11, 1953, she married Martin L. Jackson and he survives, along with daughters, Marcie L. (Carl) Vactor, Melanie K. (Richard Draher) Wilson and Mona R. (Kevin) White, all of Urbana; her sons, William R. (Clara LeFever) Moore and Martin C. (Cynthia Alexander) Jackson; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Mitchell of Bellefontaine; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A 1945 graduate of Plain City High School, she worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Grimes Manufacturing, Drackett, Kirby’s Farm Store, and was an elevator operator at the Endowment Building.
She was a member of the Auburn Avenue Baptist Church, where she also sang in the choir.
She enjoyed watching college and professional basketball and football and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very devoted, loving, and supportive of her family.
Pastor Michael Freeman officiates a home going service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Second Baptist Church, 1036 S. High St., Urbana. A gathering of family and friends is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana. Burial is in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
The family would like to thank the staff of DaVita Dialysis Center, Mercy Memorial Hospital and Springfield Regional Medical Center for the care of Naomi.
